Insurance conundrum

By this time next month we hope to own a 34' Catalina. I have contacted several insurance companies and the hang ups are: 1. We are sailing the Great Loop so have no home port. 2. Although we are seasoned sailors, we have never before "owned" a boat. So far we have been turned down mainly because of #2.

The boat will not be financed.

Looking for suggestions.

As always, thank you for your help.

I had a similar problem with my first (and only) boat. Gieco Marine Insurance (was Seaworthy and recently purchased Boat US, I think) finally covered me at half the cost of the next. You will still need an address. You need to bug a family member that can collect your mail.

Re: Insurance conundrum

Thanks! I have landed on this solution and hopefully will be able to insure it. Since our address is smack in the middle of the desert, we can use our Chicago son's address.
Appreciate the help from so many. New adventure, new obstacles, new solutions. Always learning.

If your mobile check out these guys for an address, it also will establish you as Florida residents and Florida has no state tax

Insurance wise my carrier only cared about prior experience, not how many boats or how big the ones I had owned, I thought maybe as it was my first sailboat that it may be difficult, but as how I had experience with bigger powerboats that was all they cared about

Re: Insurance conundrum

I know many people have had good luck with Progressive for U.S. and near shore.

I obtained one policy through Atlas Insurance Brokerage in Florida, and felt they were very good at assessing individual needs to decide what insurance company was the best fit.
