Island Packet Hoyt Boom

I’m seriously considering buying an IP420 but do not like the Hoyt Boom and am considering removing it. I know it’s efficient and simple, but also dangerous, difficult to store dingy on foredeck & unsightly

Question:
1. Can you heave-to with the boom? Can it be back winded?
2 if I replace the Hoyt, is it best to install a traveler, or, maybe use the 2 current blocks (port & starbrd ) that attach to the boom and route their lines to the cockpit so they can be adjusted to each side
3. Or, ditch the fixed inner stay and add a removable stay with Hank on sails for passages?

Whatever plan I have, I need to backwind the staysail so I can heave-to

Or, are their better ideas for replacing the Hoyt, or can you talk me out of it?
