islander 36 construction

looking at a bluewater boat, 34 to 37 feet. I like the islander freeport. any suggestions. my real question is, is the hull a laminate? if so what with? what 36 footers out there do not use laminate in the hull construction? cheers. glen

Im hoping you mean cored not laminate. All frp boats are laminated. Just not all are cored.

thanks for the correction, yes I do mean cored. trying to avoid wood coring below waterline. yes hopefully the hulls are laminated, lol.

Most boats from the 80's & older don't use cored hulls, race boats not included. But it's not a tough thing to check. Nor are all cored laminates horrid, nor equal.

I once owned a 78 IF36 B plan


The hull is solid fiberglass. The decks are cored with plywood. Most boats have issues with hull deck joint. Not a strength issue , a leak issue.
There is a great owners group, tons of info there. Fogers owners group.
I loved the boat.
