Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

I use a double length dacron line, middled and eye siezed, with a soft shackle. This has greatly reduce the amount of hangup I was getting on the shrouds and baby stay.

Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

Roller furling, two sheets, spliced loops, soft shackle. So much better in every way than the alternatives.

Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

1. Both
2. Two (each)
3. No shackle. Just rings sewn into the clew
4. Larkshead and double sheet bend

Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

We are another that cowhitches a long sheet in the middle to the roller furling foresail... [Prusik knot is used on the storm jib because it will still hold if one side parts...]

Cheers! Bill

Roller furling with two bowlines. Seems like it doesn’t take that much longer to deal with the bowlines compared to a soft shackle.

Tried that, bow lines catch on the baby stay when tacking which is really annoying. Soft shackle with eyes in the end of the sheets solved that in an instant. Since its a furling genoa it only comes down a couple of times a year, therefore soft shackle a simple solution, picked up from reading CF.

I can see that. My bowlines sometimes temporarily catch on a stay if I tug too hard too soon when tacking. If my sheets had eyes I'd use a soft shackle.

Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

Furler, one continuous sheet, luggage tagged to the clew.
Isn't that the only way to go?
Low profile knot, never gets caught on anything, beautiful in its simplicity...

This is one of those rare cases when one solution is clearly better than all others...

Re: Jib Sheet Clew Attachment Poll

Agree w StuM. Eye splice in the end of each sheet (a bit of a challenge with braid-on-braid but you will figure it out) then a soft shackle.

Absolutely never a metal shackle which could seriously injure someone. Even two bowlines can hurt someone in a strong wind if they have to go to the foredeck to solve something.

Dyneema sheets, so spliced eyes and soft shackles.
