Re 'no back up solo'. There are inherent risks and there are risks that we create. Two different things.
Guess it's down to perspectives.. we create the solo experience just as we create the ladder tow experience.
Without our personal input neither would happen.. but we can always kid ourselves to feel safer..

Re: Kirsten Neuschafer's Folding Ladder?

This site has some similar ladders.

There are three (03) pages of ladders. The similar one is on page 02.

Re: Kirsten Neuschafer's Folding Ladder?

For what it's worth, I installed a Garelick Eez In II on my 21' sailboat and have been happy with its hideaway nature. It requires a fairly large hole in the transom, through which you slide a metal tube that you then need to fix to something strong inside. The ladder mast slides out of the tube when you pull a pin on the outside, and the steps fold out of the mast.

When we were cruising, our only ladder was a narrow rope ladder (one foot's-width) that would tie around the stern cleat. It had a lead weight at the end to make it droop in the water while underway and worked well for us, but we were younger then.

Re: Kirsten Neuschafer's Folding Ladder?

It IS Most exhilarating!!! uplifting and worth it if you follow a few safety precautions.

She must have a trip line or a device to disengage the vane.
I’ve done this in the Gulf Stream South to North. The water pressure is considerable if you’re ticking along at 4 kts even, def takes upper body to get back aboard.

I usually trail a long line with a small fender, but she’s not going to do that because it might foul her wind vane. You can see all the ramora under your boat (they are delicious Cobia like) and the tiniest sharks that get increasingly larger as they begin to ascend to the surface…as you haul yourself out!!! I have earned the nickname “SeaAnchor” because I love doing this so much.

That ladder, I’ve seen around my neck of the woods, home built versions in aluminum.
Prob a piece of cake for a good TIG welder to build.

GO Kirsten!!!

I'd be leery of telescoping ladders. One little bang and that's the end of that function.

That's what happened to my previous boarding ladder.

The Sport Diver ladders don’t telescope.

Hmmm. The first Sport Diver ladder that came up in the link you provided: Garelick 19843:01 Telescopicing Sport/Diver Ladder

is a telescoping ladder.

I'd hate to have a fixed ladder dragging in the water putting strain on it's mounting point

Re: Kirsten Neuschafer's Folding Ladder?

As others have mentioned it's a Fin-on-dive ladder, it looks like a simple but well-built Aluminium fabricated one which any fab shop should be able to make to suit your requirements.

In my experience a lot of those off the "shelf" SS ones are flimsy; you really need to shop around for a good one, personally I would get an Aly one built.
