Re: Largest trailer sale boat with diesel

If your not going to trailer it get a nice 30 foot boat for the lakes and haul it for the winter, in spring time out in the fall then drive south......

I thing you need to be well under 4.5 draft for a trailer sailor.

It will be in lakes, rivers, and the Gulf, wherever my vacation is (retired), south in winter and north in summer. Would like to be able to do the mast by myself. I don't know about draft, probably under 4.5' but I have not done a center board. I just need pointed to some names and sizes that fall into my, I think I want. A head would be nice so a lady wouldn't find the bathroom arangement a putoff for a weeks adventure.
Get something with a swing keel for sure. The problem is getting the mast up. A 21-23 can be a struggle alone.... even when I was young.
I had a Contessa 26 with a trailer and a diesel Ford F250. It's too much to deal with. Sits too high on a trailer. Dont go there! You cant launch anyway, have to lift it in if you have much draft. So get a swing keel.

One thought would be a Freedom 25... no rigging! unstayed mast. Not sure if they have inboards? https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/freedom-25

Chrysler 26 are a decent old boat and a bargain, but the mast may be too much to handle. I've seen them with trailer for $2500. Good ballast ratio IIRC. (friend had one)

I made a mast-raising pole part of my trailer for my Macgregor 25. I do not think it would be hard to do for a larger boat. With the pole set up the mast is up in a minute using the trailer bow strap and winch. Two boats sounds easier to live with.

I think you mean a SAIL Boat, not a SALE Boat.

Getting the tile of your post correct is quite important.

Re: Largest trailer sale boat with diesel

Heart problems.....if you are fit and your only fear is that if you are out at sea having a heart attack you will be without help, I think your good with putting up a mast. If you have shortness of breath with heart failure and your are old and feeble and every time you want to go sailing you have to go through the process of putting the mast up...then I think about it twice.

Please remember that not all of your readers have English as their mother tongue, and if you use a homophone like "sale" instead of "sail", they find it very confusing. Imagine what Google Translate would make of it. Something like "Auction Boat." Are you really looking for an auction boat?

Correct spelling is a matter of courtesy and consideration towards the reader.

Please don't get all uptight about being corrected, it is probably just something you haven't thought about.

Keep well.

Re: Largest trailer sale boat with diesel

Warren,
there is a dedicated forum called "The Trailer Sailer" It is an excellent resource for the question you have posed. It will give you all the answers you require. We have owned several trailer sailers and gained a huge amount of experience from them over the years.

Re: Largest trailer sale boat with diesel

Spell check changed wanting me to make money not let the wind push me around. Will check "The Trailer Sailer" for my Northern boat but am looking at codo's with deeded dock in Florida. I will then look at a new 30'-32' to keep there. I can then fly or drive back and forth.

Case in point...English is my second language. Is a homophone a gay phone or two words that sound the same? For the record I went to graduate school at UCSan Francisco and my wife is a clinical sexologist so the above is not meant to put any group down ...just an example of how words can be confusing to an uneducated reader.

Re: Largest trailer sale boat with diesel

Our friend trailers his Pacific Seacraft, Dana. I think it is 24' but has overhangs. A very capable boat. I know these have crossed the Pacific.
He usually uses a sling to launch it but it is probably possible to trailer-launch.

Not cheap but these are great little boats. Friends had one.
