Lifting keel yacht

Hi,
I sail a 2001 beneteau Oceania 36 clipper lifting keel.
What sort of pointing angle should I expect when going to wind.
Pat.

Re: Lifting keel yacht

What is the draft with the keel down, some of the Jeanneau makes are really deep like 7ft, just not sure about a Bene.

Hi,
Keel fully down for beating up to wind.
I'll lift it for drying out on beach or sailing off the wind.

Re: Lifting keel yacht

In good conditions - within 90 degrees. 90-100 degrees is about the most common angle attainable.

However, you have short rudders and a very beamy boat, so you will start sliding to leeward if you let the boat heel too far.

It is 100% regular for most boats to only attain 100-110 degrees in more wind and beating into swell.

If you have any problem making 95 degrees in perfect conditions, start playing with sail trim and also check the bottom if it is perfectly clean.

Re: Lifting keel yacht

Thanks for reply.
In fact I achieve about 75 degrees when sailing to wind so I'm quite good with that.
Many thanks.

Re: Lifting keel yacht

Yes, measured with AWA.

I meant measurement of the boat track over the bottom (COG to COG).
