Light air

Hey all!
I've noticed the amount of motoring heavy displacement boats do, and am interested in a *short-list* of those heavy to medium-heavy (42 to 48 footers) that are star performers in light air... theory being safety first in a blow, and better economy over time (not buying diesel) while flying the light-air sails/ less need for motoring.

I recognize that "heavy" means "heavy" when talking about heavy displacement, so I'm looking for a real stand-out performer, or to bargain down to something in the medium-heavy class that is an all-points boat.

Thanx!
Bill

Re: Light air

I think it is a small window between "light uncomfortable" and "heavy comfortable" in a blow. It's just my opinion but if this is to chose a cruiser you need to focus on other things as the deciding factor.

Re: Light air

Light and heavy are relative terms. If you add in sail area per amount of displacement then we have quantitative figues to work with. What are you looking for? Yes there are a lot more quantitative factors to work with, but those two are a good place to start.
