Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Not sure if you are looking for a liveaboard marina. Like some said sell your boat up north and get a more appropriate one down here.

I have a 1979 classic islander 32 totally refurbished and new engine, etc. i am in Charlotte harbor. Cruise all the fl. S/w coast including 10,00 islands, Everglades City, Crystal river. I have 4.5’ shoal draft and 50’ mast. I can get about anywhere i want togo.

Ill sell it to you. Im going to an even shallower draft trailerable houseboat. 10,000 islands is great, safe cruising. Good fishing.

Be safe. Wear your mask.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, BJL.

As others have advised, you might check out the depth of nearby anchorages.

Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Spent some time at Twin Dolphins Marina about 5 yrs ago, right in downtown Bradenton, nice facilities, the docks have card key access, parking right there and downtown is right there as well. The shoreside facilities were well kept, and very nice. Entering was not an issue as depths usually ran around 9'. Not sure if there is a waiting list now or not. As mentioned Sneade Island is downriver, but they do not allow you to work on your own boat..be aware.

Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Your problem will be actually finding a marina with a slip. All the Marinas mentioned in previous replies have long waiting lists. I would recommend that you contact Marinas and get on their waiting lists. Prices are also very steep, you are looking at $15-$18/ft plus various other fees they tag on.

Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Is it common practice, viable or realistic to rent dockage from a private home? There are so many of them unoccupied in the Tampa/St Pete area. I would assume that a homeowner would enjoy $500/mo+-, assuming the legal aspects were accounted for properly.

Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Renting a slip behind a private home is great if you can get into their canal, but what do you do about pumpouts and electricity? Will you be able to keep your batteries charged and the boat dehumidified on 110v/10a service?

Re: Looking for Marina in Greater Tampa Area

Try Blind Pass Marina when you arrive in St Pete area. They are primarily liveaboard but accomodate others as well. Harborage near downtown St Pete is building more slips...David is your man to talk to there, where floating docks and sticker shock can be expected. The TierraVerde Marina [ Port 32 ] has a nasty tidal flow which makes their fixed docks challenging ! The pickings are slim here in Tampa Bay !
