Maltese Falcon in Nevis

I couldn't help but notice that The Maltese Falcon has dropped anchor off the Four Seasons Resort here on Nevis. Her three masts and distinctive rig tower over the trees along the island's main road. I drove down to Pinneys Beach this morning to take a few photos of her. Awe-inspiring, but a bit too glitzy-modern for my tastes.

I had read somewhere a while back that she was for sale. So, my curiosity piqued, I did a little Googling. Here's what I learned...

  • Completed sea trials on 12 June 2006.
  • Made her maiden voyage from Turkey to Italy via Malta in July 2006.
  • Original owner Tom Perkins (former Hewlett Packard exec) has publicly stated that the yacht cost more than $150 million, but less than $300 million, refusing to be more specific.
  • From the beginning, Perkins has been renting out the yacht for between €325,000 to €335,000 per week, plus expenses.
  • She was listed for sale in 2006 with an asking price of €99,000,000 (US$182,000,000).
  • Perkins sold the yacht in July 2009, to Elena Ambrosiadou, a hedge fund owner/manager for an amount rumored to be anywhere from US$100,000,000 to 150,000,000.

p.s. here's your chance--forget chartering that Beneteau in the BVI! The Maltese Falcon is currently being offered for charter for 1st-24th June in the Med for ONLY €375,000 (US$545,000) per week, plus expenses.

Ok, I've nearly finished my incompetent crew and I can just do a bowline, have I got to take a skipper for the first morning or will I be right on my own?

Re: Maltese Falcon in Nevis

Someone in another thread was looking for a boat with a nice BBQ grill off the stern. Does it have one?

Re: Maltese Falcon in Nevis

Heh! And I wonder what they mean by "plus expenses"?

We also had this little bathtub toy show up a couple of years ago. Larry Ellison's Rising Sun at 453' LOA, now owned by David Geffen. Those California billionaires do love their toys!

Remeber that the price is the "base price". It does not include fuel, special wines, docking fees, the 20% crew gratuity, etc.

Re: Maltese Falcon in Nevis

I don't see a black ball hanging in the fore triangle...

Or is it those three little black spots...
