Mast shipping from Chicago

Any sailboats out there planning the loop from Chicago to Mobile that want to ship their mast besides myself this fall 2022?
I am trying to get a list together of serious parties willing to commit to using a marine trucking service to transport the mats. The truck can handle multiple masts so the more masts we can coordinate the lower the per mast shipping costs would be.

Planning on shipping out of Crowley's boat yard in Chicago and delivering to Turner Marina in Mobile, Al.

I am attempting to get a quote from here https://walkersmarinetransport.com/ however without a count of multiple masts we can't get a realistic number

Following. I’m a year behind your plans but interested in seeing the costs associated.

Re: Mast shipping from Chicago

At Crowley's i did full service option to take Mast down, package for shipping and store until truck shows up. 2022 cost was $26.00/ft of boat length. Owner sits back and sips on gin and tonic observing the work being performed.
The second option is $18.00/ft of boat length to take it down for the owner to prep for shipping.

Cross country boat transport has taken over the shipping phase similar to what albert logistics did in the past. This year's charge was $2000.00 to ship. I don't think there are as many masts shipping these days and fuel costs are up so price isn't unreasonable.

I don't have costs for the turner marinas costs as yet to put the mat back up.

Re: Mast shipping from Chicago

Wondering if you looked into full shipping of the boat (..and mast) from Chicago to Mobile or similar?
I checked a year ago and it was around $9k for my 40' mono (Chicago/Michigan-City to St Pete, FL).
Cheers.

Just kind of curious as to why not transport it on your boat deck? You can build a frame to support it with the boat at the same time, and avoid the cost of transport. I'm pretty cheap.

My wife and I are taking off this summer 2023 from south side of lake superior. Planning on being in Chicago early Oct. Let me know if you get prices on mast shipping. I'd possibly be interested too.

Isn’t there a loopers site that might have more info than the few here that have done that

…. and a year later… :-)
Hi, I am looking into pretty much doing what you mentioned, shipping a 35’ sailboat from Chi to Fl.
I am looking for quotes but when I do a google search of course I get tons of options, not knowing which ones are real and/or reliable.
Do you know of any?
Did you ever ship your boat?

Thx
