Mast Stepping in Pensacola

Hey Folks,

Moving our Catalina 36 down to gulf waters in the fall. Putting in at Pensacola Ship Yard (or anywhere in that area if you have a better recommendation). Guy down there wants $1,500-$2k to rig, which seems outrageous. I just need the mast stepped. I can tune it.

Anyone have any good contacts or places to check?

Thanks!

Yep, your tuning it's no problem. Especially if you both measure & record your turnbuckle settings now, & purchase a Loos gauge, to measure & record your shroud tensions with. You’ll also want to study on the topic a bit. Ivar Dedekam’s book on rig & sail tuning is a good one.

Do however ensure that your deck blocking (mast chocks) are setup the same way when the mast is reinserted, & a Spartite ring would really be preferable to wedges. Also, read up on waterproofing mast boots/mast collars. Since leaks around the spar bite!

Turner Marine was our original choice before we looked at Pensacola. Mobile didn't sound very attractive but after looking at Turner's prices and services I'm considering again.

Thanks!

Mobile is a sewer, but if you just need a day in the yard it is the way to go . Turner does a lot of this for people coming up and down the Tenn tom. Head East as soon as you can though

Mobile to Pensacola isn't that far to go. Bahia Mar may be able to step the mast as well. They are just up Bayou Chico a short piece.
