Re: Moody vs other higher end brands

Ok, I guess it's a misunderstanding because of your poor spelling, punctuation, and grammar. It looked like you were saying Taiwanese and US stuff. So you were just comparing Moody to Swedish and Taiwanese shipwrights.

I think he's referring to the fact Taiwan is not in the US.. you appeared to infer boats from both countries.
Boats built under license in other countries are, for example French Beneteau and American Beneteau.. having owned one of each for me the French Bene was the better build.
The American boat had to many examples of cost cutting.
Its gonna get hot now..

Ok, that makes sense of what he was trying to say.

Where is my spelling out , or my grammar

I should have said Taiwanese built US boats perhaps.

I suppose this may just be terrible punctuation and not actually grammatically incorrect. I'll take that back.

In this statement, which is supposed to clarify your first statement, you either misspell "US" as "is" or you mean to say "is" which makes it a different statement. In the former case, it doesn't really help clarify things to simply repeat the phrase that caused confusion in the first place. In the latter case, "I specifically said Taiwanese is stuff" doesn't have spelling or grammatical issues, but it is somewhat unhelpful in clarifying anything.

I'll be fair and say I'm being an ass, but it's also fair to say that your comments haven't been crystal clear.

It is sort of interesting though, how various brands are described. My boat was made by Najad, but commissioned by BSI, a UK company, but I would probably just call it a Swedish boat, or a Swedish made boat. For Taiwanese boats, maybe it just depends on how well known it is or not where the boats are produced. I never realized Tayana was a US company. I assumed it was like Formosa, Ta Chiao, Hylas, and Ta Shing/Taswell. Likewise, I never realized that Passports were made in Taiwan. Is Cabo Rico considered a Costa Rican boat company?

Re: Moody vs other higher end brands

Another thing to consider about Moodys is sailing performance.

The last generation of Bill Dixon designed English Moodys have somewhat better sailing performance than most other "high end" boats. This is mostly just a function of weight -- they have expensive cored structures which are very light for their strength. So my M54 has D/L ratio of under 200, quite a bit lighter than comparable Oysters or H-Rs.

A Moody 64 was 4th overall in the 2004 ARC, finishing ahead of all but 3 of the pure racing boats and far ahead of any of the cruising boats, averaging over 200 miles per day over the entire Atlantic crossing :https://www.cruisingworld.com/sailbo...something-big/

In my M54 I regularly exceed 200 miles per day, with best day of 218 miles. This is a good quality if you like to sail, as I do.
