Morgan Out Island 28 parts

Hey everyone! New owner of a Morgan OI 28. Good bones but needs a total refurb. I don’t want to recreate the wheel if someone else has already figured out where to source parts.

The refurb is starting with leaks and one of them is a cracked front hatch, which is a frameless hatch with a formed piece of acrylic that hinges directly to the deck. All hardware is attached to the acrylic. The hatch cutout is 16” square so no “off the shelf” hatches even come close to fitting. I called Catalina (Catalina bought Morgan) to see if they had any new-old stock to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Starting the work this weekend and will start a build journal with resources then. If anyone needs it I have the original paperwork from 1975 with all the sail and rigging specs. Thanks!

Looking at a 1974. Needs alot of attention. How have you made out sourcing parts.

I did not have great luck. I ended up having stuff custom made or just upgraded. Not too many parts were needed. The front hatch was molded polycarbonate and I couldn’t find it so I had one made out of fiberglass. I got a deal at $700. It would have been double that but the guy said he could use the mold again. The engine was the biggest expense. There was a small amount of fiberglass work on the engine bed, a through hull replaced and a new atomic 4.
