Multiple Questions: Engine 1GM10

I need assistance with this boat I aquired. It needs fuel and fuel separator replaced (filters), it also needs raw water impellor replaced. I looked on line and doesnt appear to hard to do but are there any hints or warnings you could give me. This is my first boat and first diesel. Thanks in advance.

Close the seawater thru hull before you change the seawater pump impeller.

Re: Multiple Questions: Engine 1GM10

We have a 1GM on our Aphrodite 101. The water pump impeller is a bear to change. You will need a little right angle screw driver and needle nose pliers.

The fuel filters are easy, have a pint of clean diesel handy before you start to top up the bowl, reduce the chance of air in the line.

Always run the engine before you start, get it all wormed up. this way, you know it will start/should start after you finish.

Check the oil transfer pipe in front of the engine, below the water pump. It rots through and is hard to replace. We had one made by Lucy the Hydraulics Lady near home. I think you should order one and replace it pronto.

Keep in touch,

Where was the shop located where you got the oil lines and do you have an address and phone number? Thanks!

Oil transfer pipe: I will get Lucy's number in a day or so when I drive over there. I cannot find her business card. I know where her place is but not the name! We ordered the other transfer pipes from a Yanmar dealer my wife found on line. We'll try to recover the names and numbers.

Hope you get to sail more than motor!

Averisera: July 2010 Archives

Our blog has a picture of "Pipe C". I have the rotted pipe as a sample.

It is the only Pipe not currently supplied by Yanmar. We had ours custom made.

Check the sucker because a burst Pipe C can ruin the whole cruise!

I have a sample to leave with Lucy if the want to replace Pipe C with a hydraulic hose that installs about 0.4 nanoseconds.

Re: Multiple Questions: Engine 1GM10

Just surfing through 1GM-10 posts to see if I can learn anything. Turns out, our pipe C is in pretty bad shape and will likely let us down soon. Thanks for all the info.
