My used sail turned out to be the *exact* sail

I can't contain the joy.

Not too long ago, I bought my dream boat. 76' Westsail 42. It was a 16' jump in size. I ignored every warning of "buy small, sail more". I bought my forever boat.

I also bought cheap - so sails have been a daunting item to replace financially.

Today, I received my used sail from Bacons. It is literally a Genoa from a Westsail 43. Same mold. It looks amazing!

Here's the most amazing icing on the cake. My mast is a tall rig, cut 2' for bridge clearance and the dimensions of this cut are supposedly exactly right.

Its literally a sail from the same boat with the same odd ball mast height.

It's such a good feeling when the stars align and Lady Luck shines on you. Likely to make you grin in delight every time you raise the sails

Good to know you must have done folks a good one in the past and it's now just coming forward.

Keep up the good work.

Curious, how much did you save buying used?
I've never checked into this option.

Don't you just love it , when a plan comes together, or in your case, when the sail gods smile upon you .

A new sail, fresh from the loft would probably be ~4k depending on the loft and time of year.

I gave $1300 for the sail shipped and it appears to be brand new. Probably ~$150 in materials to replace the luft tape that is the wrong size.

Its a 53' leach and a 33' foot - so big ol' genny and lots of cloth. Maybe some folks have some feedback in the thread?

I think you can save some serious money if you keep an eye on Gumtree/Craigslist. I just purchased a new hank on Genoa for a 32 foot yacht for $500. It had been a spare sail if the furler ever failed. My MPS was so new it had never been rigged in its sock and that cost $450. It's just a matter of patience when trying to find the right sail.
Cheers

Years ago I bought a sail cover from Bacons.

It fit perfectly, including flaps for the lazy jacks, and was brand new! Even the color and stripes matched the colors of the hull and boot stripes.
