Re: Naming a boat Busted Flush after the Travis McGee series

Oh man that would be soo awesome if I could get that slip, but I remember reading somewhere that the slip didn't exist anymore. Is that correct or was I reading baloney? The books do suck you in, the only one that i consider a clunker is the turqoise lament. I just reread the last one this past week, and I think I might tackle the freefall in crimson over memorial day.

I like "Lemon Sky" as a boat name. "Deep Blue" is good too, JDM's titles are so appropriate as boat names. I too enjoyed all his books. Only wish I could write as well. He told a great story. I think most of us sees a little of McGee in ourselves, I know I have a friend that reminds me of Meyer! My favorite novel is Dress Her in Indigo.

Re: Naming a boat Busted Flush after the Travis McGee series

Hey thanks LoveMyWoodie for the links. Its easy to get your hands on a couple of used copies of the series. I actually have all the series on pdf so I can read on my Ipad if I dont feel like hauling a book around. Inkwell you correct, the titles of his books would make awesome boat names. I have another name in mind that came to me after I started the boat name search. No one has taken this one, well at least in the coast guard registry. It comes from another much loved series, albeit one usually associated with TV.

Re: Naming a boat Busted Flush after the Travis McGee series

His name is meyer because my niece said he looked like meyers ice cream, Breyers is what she was trying to say, her fave is the cookies and cream. She was like 3 when i got him, and it sounded like meyer so I kept it. I live in NC, not too far away from most points on the coast. Hmmm I will have to remember how I got the pdf's it may not have been thru, ahem, legitmate business channels. I do know the whole set is only about 21 mbs in size. I will work on that Woodie!

Re: Naming a boat Busted Flush after the Travis McGee series

I've always wondered if it was pronounced "mayor" or "myer"?

Crews get known and named by their boat name. Everyone is different but I wouldn't want to get known as the "Toilet Boat" guy.

How about "Busted Strait" which you hear more playing poker and has a little nautical/navigational twist.

Then you might get known as, "That straight guy." - LOL

I charter a Hunter in SFO called Gute Farht II. It's obviously German but I couldn't imagine picking that name TWICE!

I even felt a little silly making the radio check call...

Busted Flush? I thought that was Peggie Halls boat.
If you want to get an idea of the power of hurricanes, read JDM's "Condominium"

Re: Naming a boat Busted Flush after the Travis McGee series

Loved all the JDM books as well. I think Busted Flush would be a good name, but many/most would not get it these days. I thought about it a couple boats ago, but couldn't do it. Too many jokes related to toilets. I did however name my son, Travis!

You may also try the Randy Wayne White series. Surprised no onw mentioned them yet. He definitely channels JDM and his protagonist is very similar to Travis McGee. I read all of them as well.
