Welcome!
My wife and I love our hinckley 49!
If you have any questions feel free to get in touch
Wonderful boats, bulletproof and comfortable, even when things get bumpy...
Happy sailing!

Oh I forgot to add we've caught many fish trolling off the aft cockpit as you've envisioned. Speed under sail is perfect for many species. Our advice for fishing near shore is watch the birds. They will tell you where the fish are!
Offshore bottomi terrain cliffs and water currents indicated by drastic temperature changes are the hotspots. Dawn and dusk are beat times to fish.
Pink lures seem to work well, but maybe that's just superstition!
Enjoy!

Re: New to Sailing, this Site, and Sailboat Ownership

Well after 2 1/2 month aboard Dream I have to say that I think I bought the right sailing vessel. Made the trip from St Augustine to Barnegat Bay in 8 days. Since I'm new to sailing I'm not a hard core sailor by any stretch of the imagination so the drone of the Lyman diesel is rather comforting when the wind dies and you still want to make 8+ knots.

Although it's mid summer I'm already thinking about a fall trip to the Chesapeake, then down the ICW during Thanksgiving week, and back to Florida for Christmas to spend my weekends there during the winter months. Can't imagine putting her on the hard for the winter in NJ so I think this is a better plan. This would allow me to sail to the Bahama's next spring so I suspect I'll end up in West Palm Beach for a month or so prior. Life can be good!

Just saw your website! Very nice! We should start a H49 fan club

Sounds great! I wish I could do more long trips. Someday soon!

I set up a google groups site for hinckley 49s. You should join up! Not a lot of them around, a couple dozen, but it would be fun to compare notes!

For those that don't know the hinckley 49's, I attached a pic of ours in marthas vineyard last week..
Happy sailing!

You better be careful as there is a "Security Zone" around the Liberty Island and circling it might just get you a visit from the officers. Also the area north and west is rather shallow - 4 feet at low water just outside the circle of orange warning buoys marking the security zone.
- - Last time I was there you could not take a private boat and dock there to visit the statue.

Thanks for the heads up! I see there is a shallow on the NJ side and a designated security area too. It will still be pretty cool to be in NY Harbor!
