Because it is there to do. Why else would one climb K2 or hike across Antarctica or race bikes across the US (RAAM) or swim the English Channel or the Straits of Florida?

He's really put a lot of thought into a lot of the design and done some really interesting design choices with sound explanations why - I hope it works for him! Rather him than me though

As to why? What a stupid question. Why not?

Idiot! These morons put other people's lives at risk when they get into trouble. Not to mention the expense to the tax payer. He should foot the bill for his stupidity.

There is another way of looking at it,
If it wasnt for the Idiots that did strange things and not normal for the crowd, Masses,
We would still be in caves throwing rocks at each other,

Imagine the comments when the first human draped animal skins on themselves to keep warm, Back then, It would have been covered in guts and bits of flesh,

Maybe he seen those two blokes that spent a week in an upturned Esky floating in the Arafura sea above Australia,
I can do that, Hahahaha

This guys seems well experienced and well prepared. I wish him luck and hope he makes it. I think he / the article left out one element though, fear.

Here is a link to the sailor's website, where you can see photo galleries such as this one, which show the construction and design and fit out of the boat.

The hull shape is shown in the photos on this page:

It almost looks like an underwater vehicle with a mast.
