Older Boat insurance concerns?
We are considering buying a 37 feet sailboat made in 1980. The boat is in general good shape and it sails really well. Riggings, engine, and sails are good. We plan to invest more into the boat to make it suitable for longer distance cruise (maybe not full time liveabroad), possibly in the Caribbeans and beyond. Boat will be registered in the US. Is there a concern of getting insurance for a 44 year old boat for sailing in foreign waters, like the Caribbeans? Is it necessary to get some sort of boat certificate to sail it in the Meds?
