Optimal size for haulouts "anywhere"

Before we get too deep into our search for a boat, I was just wondering if there is an optimal or maximum size which will allow us to be hauled out in most / many places?

I have looked at a 45 ft'ish / 23 Ton'ish custom monohull and it hit me that this seems a little on the heavy side and it may pose problems for haul outs.

Thanks.

Re: Optimal size for haulouts "anywhere"

Although 23 tons is EXTREMELY heavy for a 45 foot sailboat boat, the weight is rarely the issue at haulout. For most sailboats, the travel lift that can accommodate them is more set by the dimensions of the hull and standing rigging.

For catamarans it is almost always the beam that is the limiting factor, for monohulls it is the length, and rigging interferences.

Just by way of example, our 52 foot, 18 ton ketch fits nicely in a 75ton travel lift after we release the mizzen backstays, and JUST barely squeezes into a 50ton. Fits without issue into a 120 ton lift. Although theoretically a 25 ton travelift could get us out of the water, our rig would just not fit under the cross bar.

Of course if you go far enough afield, and the boat yard is lifting boats with a standard crane, NOW 23 tons can become a problem...
