Outstanding? Why?
This is a traditional rigged wood boat that will stir up the imagination of privateers and pirates. This is the kind of boat that brings out the kid (or Captain Kidd) in everyone who sees her and sails on her.

There are many photos showing the boat and its fun loving "pirate" crew, on Facebook. The ship has a page, called "TallShipRoyaliste" and from what I saw in the many photos, that crew knows how to have a good time, with obvious fun, pirate costumes, music, and period acting.

Location = Portland, Oregon on the Multnomah Channel

Steady's Disclaimer
I have not sailed on this boat, though I would like to do so. I have NO financial connection to the boat's owner or seller. I am simply sharing this notice about this boat because I find it interesting and "outstanding" for some reason (see my first or Original Post that started this thread).
Not to be confused with the British TS ("Training Ship") Royalist:

Old one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TS_Royalist_(1971)

Her replacement:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TS_Royalist_(2014)

Know both ships very well! Rafted up to the old one a few times in Weymouth harbour. Berthed across the breakwater from the new one this spring in Cowes, then passed her in the Baltic a couple of times -- she was in Kotka, Finland, for the Tall Ships Races.

Lovely vessels, but the old one was involved in a couple of incidents, IIRC -- cadets falling to their death fromt he rigging I think.

Re: Outstanding Boats - A Special Selection of Unusual and Noteworthy Boats I Find

About the Tall Ship Royaliste (in Portland Oregon) i mentioned above:

There are a few videos related to her on YouTube. One shows a critical accident she had, when a sternwheel river boat backed into the Royaliste, causing some damage to the timber hull.

The other videos show the crew having fun as reenactors during the Portland Festival that includes historic ships and boats.

I received word from the crew that the two captains for the Royaliste have both passed away. The ship does need repair, as it is reported that some repairs done after the accident were not well done, and she was last sailed three years ago.

Here is a video that shows the Royaliste and crew having some fun.

Re: Outstanding Boats - A Special Selection of Unusual and Noteworthy Boats I Find

Totally agree about the thread. Most excellent. I especially appreciate the insights and reflections that you share about various design aspects of the boats you feature. I follow the local (Great Lakes for me) Craigslists, as well as San Diego and a couple others, as I’m sure many do. Your posts help to inform my browsing as my experience is limited to my own humble boat, and my time working and sailing on it. You do a nice job of maintaining a neutral stance, neither glowing nor nitpicking, and realistic in terms of these are boats that your ‘average’ cruiser could buy. It seems to me used sailboats are a buyers’ market, but the really great deals don’t last, so you need to know what you want, what you need, and be ready to close the deal when it comes up, so the more info and insight, the better.

More than anything, reading your posts just feels like talking boats, and that’s something I like to do. Not reading magazine articles about the latest-greatest, or f’book posts or sailing channel videos that show people and boats as they wish to be perceived, but real thoughts about real boats that I or someone like me might actually buy.
Thanks.

Re: Outstanding Boats - A Special Selection of Unusual and Noteworthy Boats I Find

This is my absolute favorite boat ever on YachtWorld. Everything from the Holman & Pye lines, the refit, the choices of color, woods, the interior layout. This vessel just kills me. Of course I could never afford it. But, I can keep dreaming.

Howdy Liquidice!
Thank you for adding your kind comments. I am always happy to talk boats, and I learn so much from others here who are sharing their experiences and views. It is nice to know one's views are shared, or appreciated, or read. I am glad you find this thread helpful or interesting. Staying neutral does require some effort at times.
I have not had much time in the last few months so have not been putting much content into CF lately, but I will add more in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Very nice looking boat.
Gives me the impression of a beautifully restored classic car.
I particularly like the interior styling, with white bulkheads reflecting the light in the interior. The lines of the boat (how she looks above water in profile) looks nice too, and give an impression of speed.

That's a beautiful boat.

Thanks for bringing it up in this thread. I will post some photos here to stimulate more interest in views of it, since it is benefiting a Sail Training organization.

Re: Outstanding Boats - A Special Selection of Unusual and Noteworthy Boats I Find

Eldredge-McInnis 1962 MotorSailor 54' WOOD (Teak)

Asking Price = $49K
Location = San Francisco Bay Area (Emeryville)
WOOD (Teak) hull.

Steady's Notes:
I like this style boat, and think this one looks "handsome" in a traditional motor sailor way with "character" of design. I like what I see in the interior too.

The ad says this boat is currently a liveaboard, and that it may be possible to keep the liveaboard slip (Emeryville). For someone looking for a liveaboard yacht in the San Francisco Bay, this may be hard to match for cost, size, and appeal.

Description from the Ad:

"Designed by Eldredge-McInnis specifically for extended cruising, LADY JADE was custom built of solid teak (almost unheard of even then and prohibitively expensive today) in British Hong Kong by American Marine (later renowned for building the classic Grand Banks and Grand Alaskans. Always home-ported in San Francisco Bay, she's logged an estimated 130,000 miles sailing the South Pacific, Mexico and Alaska. Refit at regular intervals over the years (most recently in 1990 and 1996, with the 1980 Detroit Diesel 4-71 diesel rebuilt in 1993)."

__________

My Disclaimers and Requests

I have no financial or other connection to this boat or the seller.
I have not seen this boat in person, nor have I sailed on it.
As with any boat, it is a good idea to research the design to learn about how they sail, common problems and owner opinions.
As with any boat, it is smart to have a qualified yacht surveyor perform a survey of the boat to assess its condition.
I am posting this to help others find boats. This one caught my eye, and I hope this thread helps others find a good fit for them.
I hope this thread proves helpful to CF Members. If so, let me know, as it is nice to know the time spent on it has helped others.
IF you purchase this boat, let me know (a PM would be OK).
IF you purchase this boat, I would enjoy seeing it, or going for a sail on it, if I am ever in your area. Or, if you own a similar or sister boat send me a PM. I enjoy sailing on a wide variety of boats and would like to get some time on many designs, including this one.
