SCOUT30,
Thanks for the kind response and for adding another good comment about a boat design(er).

I looked at this boat and imagined it being something that could be an interesting vessel for traveling the US coast, such as the PNW inside passage or the Atlantic near the Keys or Gulf of Mexico, with its shallow draft it could go many places that even much smaller boats cannot because of their draft.

It is such an interesting (outstanding as different) boat design.

POLUX,
Thanks for continuing to add more about the Cigale and (any) boats you know. I learn something new from every one of your posts, and share your admiration for the designs of those "Interesting Boats."

Back to that Aluminum Boat Company aluminum boat, someone else already started a thread on that boat seeking info on the builder. My personal guess is that it was built by the company that is or became Alubat.

At first glance there is a lot to like there. Big boat, too much for us, we are mere mortals.

Whisstock 55' Ketch ALUMINUM
___________________________

Steady's Notes

The photos of the boat show a very nice looking boat, in what appears to be excellent condition. The photos immediately made me think: "Dream Boat" and "expedition yacht." This is the kind of boat I have dreamed of having for a circumnavigation or multiyear cruise, of living on for years. It is that nice.

I like what I see in the photos. A few things I particularly liked seeing:
1. Pilothouse design with raised helm/nav station and what appears to be good visibility from that station.
2. Very nice wood furniture and what appears to be a high quality of cabinetry work and finish.
3. Nice lines (profile of the boat) and nice deck.
4. Nice aft cockpit.
5. Nice saloon.
6. Very nice master stateroom with storage and nice wood.
7. Very nice guest cabins.
8. Good equipment, including recent engine etc.
9. Outstanding galley. This will make many sailing cooks envious.

The boat is currently on CF's Classifieds Forum, see the link down below, where you can read more about it and see the long list of gear and description by the owner.

There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page. In addition, the owner has created a website for his boat, and it is an excellent website. The website has a nicely drawn layout of the boat, many photos, links to cruising logs, details, details, details, and videos including drone footage and walk through vids too. Well done for a private sale site.

As with any boat, a survey is a good idea. Caveat Emptor.

CCYD 83' Twin Screw C/B Schooner

Steady's Notes
Here is a boat for a sailor with $500K to spend, but for someone who is not thrilled by spending it on a production plastic boat.

This boat has a provenance that has some value, at least in certain circles. You could be sailing a boat that was formally owned by true royalty, including Princess Grace of Monaco. That may have some significant value and bragging rights at the yacht club and any anchorages or marinas.

Designed by Ron Holland. Recently refitted (imagine the cost).

1984 CCYD 83 Twin Screw C/B Schooner Sail Boat For Sale -

Current Price:
EUR 480,000 Tax Not Paid (US$ 592,848)
______________________

Description (Excerpt)

Originally built for Prince Ranier III of Monaco, VALIMIRO is a comprehensively refitted and updated steel-hulled twin screw centreboard schooner from CCYD to designs by Ron Holland.

FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:

VALIMIRO was originally built by CCYD in Venice in 1984 as ‘STALCA II’ to the order of HH Prince Ranier III of Monaco and his American actress wife Grace Kelly for sailing with their three children: Stefanie, Albert and Caroline. From their combined names, came the boat name STALCA.

Following their ownership, STALCA II (now VALIMIRO) passed through two further ownerships, a German businessman and an Italian industrialist. In 2009, she was laid up ashore for 4 years before being acquired by her present owner who has subsequently undertaken a comprehensive rebuild of the yacht to bring her back to her former glory. During this refit, almost every aspect of the yacht was worked through, including:-

Complete zero-hour rebuild of the twin Caterpillar engines
Teak Deck replaced 2014
Fitment of new Onan generator and full rebuild of secondary Onan generator
Fitment of new teak decks
Complete repaint of all exterior and interior metalwork
New hydraulic systems
New air-conditioning system
New electronics
Remodelled bathrooms with electric heads

With the practicality of an easily-handled schooner rig, the robust nature of the steel hull and the ‘go-anywhere’ nature of her centreboard keel, VALIMIRO is the prefect adventure yacht. Her fantastic 5-cabin plus crew interior is also luxurious enough for charter or liveaboard duties, whilst her fascinating history is sure to create conversation in any anchorage she visits.

MANUFACTURER’S BACKGROUND:

CCYD is the acronym of “Costruzioni e Charter Yacht Diporto”, a shipyard founded in Venice by Mr. Gianfranco Padoan during the '70s. The shipyard became famous during the ‘80s for his quality in the production of steel custom made boats designed from famous designer such as Tommaso Spadolini, Gae Aulenti, German Frers and Ron Holland.

I like what I see in the photos. There are more photos showing the interior and cockpit and details on the linked page.

The boat has similar styling of an Alubat OVNI, with typical "open layout" (which I like at this size).

The boat has a numerous ports and deadlights for letting in light. I like the integral hard dodger over the companionway too.

I like what I see in the equipment list and upgrades (see my bold highlighting below).

Steady's Notes:

This boat is a classic. I like the styling. I like the interior. I like the berths. I like the portlights. I am sure she is an outstanding head-turner when in any anchorage or marina. I would love to go for a sail on her. Or better yet, a long cruise along the coast of France.

Description from the ad:

"Wooden Ships Comments on this Norman Dallimore Ketch

Blue Bonnet was custom-designed by Norman Dallimore, built by Tucker Brown in 1947.

Commissioned as a cruising boat for a Colonel, his wife insisted on having standing headroom throughout so there is a step in the deck just forward of the cockpit and a gently rising foredeck to achieve this. They carried a paid hand so she has a berth in the focsle where the hand lived.

She has received much alteration and improvement over the years, not least in the present 33-year ownership. Originally a sloop with a very long boom, she was altered to a ketch to make sail handling easier and the wheelhouse was fitted with an inside helm giving comfortable cruising in heavy weather. Regular refits by Lallows in Cowes have kept her sound including a new engine in 2013 and a complete interior re-paint from bilges upwards with a new transom and teak stern deck and rails. Raised exterior helm gives all-round vision and communication with crew.

Blue Bonnet has cruised frequently around northern Europe , the Channel, Biscay, the French canals and the Mediterranean. She is a wonderful summer home, stable and with plenty of space. Although she has the looks of a motor sailer, her performance under canvas alone is very respectable with frequent passages in heavy and light winds without the engine on all points of sail. She has been sailed single-handed. For a period she was a retirement home in the Mediterranean and later as a base for a City banker in St Katherine’s dock.

At less than 40′ she offers a lot of capability and volume for her size, and in an era where size is charged it is important to not buy too large a yacht. An iconic, well- loved and interesting yacht with fine looks.

To SCOUT30,
I thought you would like that Ketch.
She is a beauty. I would be very happy to care for her, sail her, live with her.
