Pedal Mechanism in Galley ?? - Oceanis 400 1995

All,
Just bought a 1995 Beneteau Oceanis 400. As I am going through the boat, there is a foot pedal under the sink that sticks out slightly. For the life of me I can't figure out the purpose of the pedal and can't seem to identify the mechanism it is connected to. Nothing in the owners manual as well.

Anyone out there with a similar boat who can advise on:
1. Function
2. Use
3. Operation

Much appreciated.

It's a foot pump for water, may be saltwater, or connected onto your freshwater system - Regards.

An outside chance that no longer attached to anything!, if boat since converted to electric pumped water. or might not be pumping water due to water tank being empty - sounds obvious, but......

I recently read a blog from a couple that had a Beneteau with one of those foot pumps. They are on Lake Superior and it pumps fresh lake water through the galley faucet for simple tasks like rinsing dishes to save potable water. Cool idea... maybe not so much in salt water though!

Used to be that you did all the dishes in salt water (the foot pump) and then rinsed them with fresh (usually a hand pump). In modern boats, we often carry a lot more fresh water.

I have one: it's plumbed to draw saltwater. I have tiny FW tanks: if I'm out for a week w/ a full crew, we wash dishes in salt, then quickly rinse in fresh. Really helps conserve my limited tankage. Rinse can even be a spray bottle of fresh water if one must conserve every drop.

salt water is a great dish cleaner. cuts body fluids ....cleans blood and gore right up....seasickness residue cleans up nicely with it, also.....works wonders on teak wood.........

if it doesnt work, check connections to wherever it is spozed to go....

Salt water is good for all the above -mentioned uses in the galley. For boiling pasta, try about 20 % sea water to 80 fresh. I find foot pumps are much more convenient than hand pumps. No pressurized water on my boat, please!

This is a common mechanism on all the Jeanneaus and Beneteaus I've been on. On my boat I can flip a valve and choose between salt or freshwater. The foot pump lets you control how much water you use and you have both hands free to work. I still use saltwater to get rid of most of the crud on dishes, then final clean and rinse in freshwater and it is surprising how much water one saves this way.

Its to pump out the refrigerator. Frige water should squirt into the sink from the small faucett.

I have put a Y valve in the line under the sink and run a salt water intake to a spare sea cock to pump into the sink.
Then I chucked the foot pump away and put in an electric pump
