Plate next to keel of beneteau 42

I just hauled out my benny 42. It has a lighting rod on the mast and i was wondering if this plate is where it sends the energy to dissipate. Any opinion is welcome. Thanks. Click image for larger version

Could be. Look inside the bilge, to see if large cables run from the base of the mast [#4AWG, or 25mm2 min.], and engine [#6 AWG min.], to a stud/bolt at the plate’s location. If so, it’s a lightning ground plate.

Thanks for the info. It ended up being a keel cooler plate for a fridge compressor.
