Powered USB Hub vs Powered USB Cables

i need to run a USB signal across about 20 feet, and i need a powered cable to do it. BUT i was wondering if I could use a powered hub instead. or both maybe?

Cheers,

After doing a lot of screwing around running Long USB cables for my WIFI I ended up using both with the powered hub at the antenna end of the cable. I had no trouble with using a thumb drive at the end of the powered cable but the WIFI just would not work well without a powered hub on the far end to boost the signal. Also be careful to try to run the USB separate from other wires. I ran mine at first with some AC wires and it would work for about 2 hours and then quit, and then the computer would reject the cable completely, about drove me nuts figuring that one out. The cable would have to sit overnight by itself before I could use it again. I had to install an outlet in a aft locker to power the hub but since doing that I get a great connection, I am on it now. I am running about 24 feet.

Good Luck

I have tried:
- powered hub(s),
- powered cables,
- coax to the Wifi device at the PC (and then a 4'' USB cable),

If it is WiFi then the co-ax beats all hands down.

The powered USB cable works. The powered hub was poorest, but its destination is not re-powering the signal but rather power the hub so that more than one device can use the same port (so it iss different by design and purpose and good for what it was meant).
