Re: Pullman Berth w/head in bow

Our Saga 43 has the pullman. We were unwilling to even consider the V berth version. 3 years later, we have no regrets. V berth gymnastics suck royally!

The Pullman has a nearly rectangular double bed mattress. The main bulkhead behind your head makes it easy to read in bed and keep your pillows from falling off. I am 5'8, the admiral is 5'4 and sleeps on the outboard side. She has no problems getting over my feet, especially with over 4 ft of headroom to sit up and crawl around. We spent last summer sailing to the Bay of Fundy and back, and didn't notice the outboard spot being uncomfortably cold. Large hatch directly over my head provides incredible ventilation, although the admiral gets much less of the airflow.

Our boat is built with a forepeak head and a second better head just forward of the aft cabin. On ours, and several others, the forepeak head has been turned into a workshop and storage. Large hatch directly over the head makes it easy to drop the spinnaker bag down for storage. Far better use of the space!
