Question on Tayana 37

Just got a Tayana 37 and am wondering what this is forward in the bilge... Looks like a tank of some sort but can't figure out from the manual that it even exists.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Re: Question on Tayana 37

I am much more familiar with the 42, however are you sure thats a tank?
Looking at the pic that looks like a thru hull with a strainer in line.
There is a grey water tank up fwd in the 42's....but does not look like that.
And that whole area looks like needing a whole lot of attention.

More pics may provide more info

Re: Question on Tayana 37

Looks like a through hull with the wrong hose on it. Is it raw water pickup for the head? The line filter is a good idea, but totally the wrong hose for below the waterline. That through hull is a good kind imo, the T shaped handle on one side loosens it up to turn it, while the other moves the valve itself. Once in the desired position, you tighten the T handle until it stops leaking. It apparently spooked someone in the past, so they put a ball valve on it as the new primary. Could be used for a sink pump or similar too.

Kind of odd for a through hull considering that it appearrs to be rounded inward ... As if there were a tank behind.

Going to see if I can get someone to dive and see what it.looks.like from the outside ...

It's really a pretty hard ask what with a single pic from a single angle with absolutely no more info.....

But I am fairly sure what you are looking at is the shape of the hull as it rolls into the vertical of your keel.

I just have to ask....are you somewhat familiar with sailboats? Have you seen a boat even similar to this on the hard?

Also another really easy thing to do, while replacing the hose that most definately need replacing.....amoungst all that that requires replacement.....would be to open the thru hull and the in line ball valve. I am pretty sure that whatever is outside the boat IE salt water/ fresh water...will flow into the boat.
Pretty sure.
Also, as pointed out, follow the hose. That Little piece of advice I believe is going to be of GREAT value to you in the future.
Pretty sure.
I could be wrong......but pretty sure I am not. Please please advise if that is the case.

Re: Question on Tayana 37

Hey,
I have a 1982 Tayana 37. I agree with some of the other folks that you are looking at a thru hull. Tayana built semi custom boats so there is quite a variety of design and finishes. However the hull is pretty much standard. It might be a good idea to haul out and consider replacement of thru hulls based on the pic. It's not that big of a deal and gives you some piece of mind. Plus you have the opportunity of checking and replacing hoses and clamps etc.
Good luck.

Are you saying odd because you’re not aware your hull is rounded?

That’s a through hull fitting for a seawater supply if I’ve ever seen one.

Re: Question on Tayana 37

I'm assuming that is inboard as I cannot imagine how you would not know if that was on your hull. Maybe a shower sump drain hose into a holding tank?

Definitely a through hull with an original Groco bronze fitting, which has seized in the open position, This 40 year old valve is not in production now.

Rather than replacing , it has been ignored and a ball valve added onto it to duplicate the functionality of seized valve.
