Smile caulking hatch frames?

Hi all,

I did this after consulting with Lewmar, the guys who made the hatches. They specified a silicone rubber sealant with a specific number which I cannot remember! However I can say that the reference number of the sealant was the same as the most common type of builder's silicone rubber sealant in my local store!Maybe your hatches are by another manufacturer, so it may be possible to visit their website to settle the matter?

Good sailing to all!

I have not used any type of caulk to bed ports or hatches for years. I now use only Butyl Tape and to date have never had one leak after installation or rebedding, no matter what the material. WG

Maine Sail has a great resource at his website: Installing New Found Metals Stainless Portlights Photo Gallery by Compass Marine at pbase.com

Excellent resource there-- he uses butyl tape, too.
