Replacement Inverter/Charger

I have a 15-year-old Xantrex Freedom 20, 81-2011-12 Charger /Inverter that fried.
Any ideas on replacement chargers / Inverters.

420 Passage 4 6 volt 8AGC2 Batteries.
Any brand ideas.

Thanks
John

The Magnum are very good.
But.
Is that the grey one or the black one? The Black (Heart Interface) ones are almost indefinitely repairable.
If its the Grey one, check the relays, or just replace them, they cost about $3.50. (On the original Heart ones, they cost about $75.00)

Re: Replacement Inverter/Charger

I have a Freedom 25 (black).
The charger part has stopped working. I think the inverter part is suspect too, since I get wierd power drains during the generator operation (water maker or compressor running).
I talked to a marine sparky, who said that the agents (in OZ) stopped repairing these about 15 years ago, and that it should be considered defunct. I kinda wondered if it might be something simple, like sick relays, or dirty contacts inside.
Anyway, I have purchased an Enerdrive Magnum 2600, which the sparky said was an almost exact replacement. It certainly looks very similar. I have yet to install it, since the current unit appears to have the 12v leads pre-wired into it, so I might need to buy or manufacture the new leads before I do the swap out and have no power available for some(?) hours.

Re: Replacement Inverter/Charger

Xantrex has gotten very bad at supporting its gear being repaired, even Authorized Service Centres often can't get parts other than cannibalized stuff.

Magnum or Victron. . .

Re: Replacement Inverter/Charger

Can anyone tell me please...
If I *were* to open up the Freedom 25, would I find that the pre-wired 12v leads are bolted through lugs to terminals in the unit?
In other words, would I be able to simply unbolt them and swap them across to the new unit and bolt them on with existing lugs?

I ask because I potentially won't be near supplies for a couple of weeks, but it would be good to install the new unit before that.

At a later stage, I can redo all connections in a clean install and make new once more

Yes, 13mm or 1/2 " brass nuts n bolts.

Before you junk it, check the contacts on the Potter and Brumfield relays, hard to see, you need a dentist mirror.

The charge thing sounds like its the triac thats gone...If its pulling major AC amps, but not charging with many DC amps, then highly likely, they cost very little, its located against the bulkhead where the trip switches are, two philips screws, and its mounted in heat transfer paste. The numbers are on the side of the can, It has a base and two spade connectors, one big one smaller.

Re: Replacement Inverter/Charger

If you must replace, think Victron. Best in their field in my OPINION.
