Re: Rounding Cape Horn in CD 33 vs ASW II (merged)

Doubling the Horn is a 'big deal' because its all about the voyage - not so much the destination.

It involves a long time in high latitudes whether coming from Au/NZ, French Polynesia, one of the old Nitrate ports, or even Ecuador - and yes I have known a boat - Finnish - that did that - directo - some years ago.

You may be lucky and not have any serious weather - a friend's recent trip can be found here https://forecast.predictwind.com/tra...isplay/Gringo/

Or you may luck out - the last 20 or 30 seconds were filmed just before TzuHang was pitchpoled

Cook Strait is 41 South and nothing much special about sailing there. People have swum it.
Yes, but it also can be pretty awful and has sunk a ferry with a loss of hundreds of people.

Consider Bass St. too. Yet one of our friends rowed across from Melbourne as a young man.

There are heaps of places to pay close attention to the weather when you're out sailing, and to weigh the risk/benefit analysis.
