RPM limitation when in gear

Hi all:
I have a Morgan OI 41 with a Perkins 4108. I recently got stuck on a sandbar and had to rev my engine beyond the 2200rpm I usually stick to. Since then, my engine will not rev beyond 2000rpm when in gear, forward or reverse. When in neutral, it revs as high as I want it to go. I don’t see any breaks in the accelerator cable linkage etc. Any ideas on what would cause this?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Re: RPM limitation when in gear

Bent blade/blades on prop. Or Unrelated fuel restriction- check the fuel shutoff valves and make sure they are wide open.

Re: RPM limitation when in gear

Probably fuel restriction, but could be linkage, alignment, prop. Unusually high rpm and a higher fuel flow can dislodge debris in the fuel system, possibly blocking pick up tube, filters, etc. WOT might have caused a linkage adjustment to loosen that later settled in a position that prevents full throttle. Running aground can flex the hull and even though it returns to shape, the alignment often suffers.
Not likely you hurt internal engine components.
