Sail set ups/rigging - smaller sails vs reefing?

An often forgotten thing on a large furling genoa (mine is 150%) is to have a foam luff which then means you get a flatter sail when partially reefed. My main is in-mast furling so when i had to dump the old one i specified my new main to have vertical battens which gives an extra 20% or so of sail area and better sail shape and heading than the old negative leech main with no battens.
