For sure don't rush look at as many boats as possible! Boats are a compromise. I suggest Bob Perry's book According to Perry. He explains alot especially keels rigs and rudders.Good $ spent.

External keels dont fall off in the main and deck stepped masts are just as good or better then keel stepped. You are showing your naivety go and seriously look at boats and understand the models etc.
