Sailboat insurance in Florida

Just moved from Georgia to Florida west coast.
Our insurer, Travelers, doesn’t insure boats in Florida!
Seems that some insurers no longer cover boats here.
Any advice on who to try would be much appreciated.
Planning to move our Catalina 385 from Brunswick Ga to somewhere near Dunedin Fl.
Cheers,
Alan

Probably want to engage a broker, if you do not want to spend the day calling around and always wondering if you got the best price. It does not cost you anymore as paid by insurer - so you're paying the markup anyhow if you called them directly.

Definitely get a broker. I use Wells Marine Insurance out of Wrightsville Beach, NC and have been very pleased with their services.

Re: Sailboat insurance in Florida

If you are a wide-ranging cruiser, you definitely need a broker to acquire coverage in the Caribbean, etc.

If you plan to stick to the southeastern U.S., with maybe an occasional trip to the Bahamas, try Allstate, which gave me a good policy at a decent rate. (I also have home and car insurance with them.)

Geico/BoatUS used to be the go-to, but its policy has turned to crap with prices rising and coverage dwindling. (See other threads on CF regarding this.)

I also had a problem trying to collect on a smallish storm-related claim that led me to dump the company entirely after many years. The reps were rude, disingenous and argumentative, not qualities I appreciate in an insurance company.

I'm on Florida's west coast, too (Fort Myers area). I was able to get a policy from Progressive just a few months ago for my 40' sailboat.

Kept our boat usually in the Chesapeake now in Daytona Beach..premium went down.. their reason “don’t get many claims in that area..”

Last I saw BOAT US is Geico, and the fine print makes the insurance rubbish. Plenty of threads on this topic.

Re: Sailboat insurance in Florida

Do you know how many boats are in Florida ????

I don't know either, but here's my guess.....probably millions.

Most all of them are likely insured. When you get here, just ask around.

Re: Sailboat insurance in Florida

Thanks for the encouraging replies.
Checked with a couple of brokers and there are indeed better deals on coverage than we presently have.
Cheers all,
Alan
