SailingYacht ''Mary Deare!'' WHAT HAPPENED?

SailingYacht ''Mary Deare!'' WHAT HAPPENED?
I was the lucky owner of the british sailing-yacht: ''Mary Deare'',
in 1987-1988! After I sold her to a Schweiz man,it was brought to Italy.

Mary Deare was designed by Robert Clark and sistership to Gipsy Moth.

The first owner in 1959, was the author Hammond Innes, who whote a book about his sailing with Mary Deare: ''Sea and Islands''.

Mary Deare is 43 fod steel-construction, built in Zaandam, Holland
motored to England, where it was finished inside in teak!

After I sold The Mary Deare, I do not know, what happened.

I am very curious about what happened after my ownership,
and where Mary Deare is today?

I hope there are someone in our forum,
who knows or has heard about Mary Deare?

With sailing greetings
Troels

Unusual yacht name and there is one with a radio call sign on the international database:

https://www.itu.int/mmsapp/shipstati...UEmvVqW8C9FJhG

Disappointingly, she doesn't appear on the AIS searches.

Hi Pete!
Thank you for your fast reply!
The name is from Hammond Innes book: ''The wreck of Mary Deare!''

I can see, the yacht is german registrated, but how do I come in contact?

You could try writing to the German radio agency and ask that they forward a letter on to the current registrant, if its the same yacht of course.

Doubtful they will be able to release the owners name and address to you due to GPDR, but an open letter with an envelop plus stamp stands a chance.

The book became a great movie with Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston in '59.

That movie and Farley Mowatt's book "Gray Seas Under" led to a boyhood dream to be a salvage skipper. Fortunatley, I did not pursue that dangerous calling later in life.

Hope you find your boat.

Cheers!

There was a 1959 film titled: "The Wreck of the Mary Deare" based on the 1956 novel of the same name by Hammond Innes who apparently was the original owner of your vessel.

The Wreck of the Mary Deare is a 1959 Metrocolor (in CinemaScope) British-American thriller film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston, and featuring Michael Redgrave, Cecil Parker, Richard Harris and John Le Mesurier. The screenplay by Eric Ambler was based on the 1956 novel of the same name by Hammond Innes.

Reference the plot at wiki:

Unfortunately, vessels get renamed. With only the previous name and the extent of its pedigree really being who owned it and the city it was built in, it may be very difficult to locate, if it's still intact. If it's not still intact, unlikely.
