San Juan 21 mk II

I've located a SJ 21 north of Seattle, it's a MKII, which the SJ drivers say is a faster race boat. pERF.

I received an email tonight and the gentleman stated that this sj21 mk II is a fixed keel boat. We have a decent fleet of both sj21s and Santana 20s here. I've never seen or heard of a fixed keel SJ 21.

Was under the impression all were swing keels.

Is anybody aware of a fixed keel. I'm trying to,source a 21 to race in that class aswell.would a fixed keel be an advantage over a swing keel, or a negative.

I don't know.

Does anybody have any knowledge on this fixed keel model.

Thanks

DW

Disregard the above, sj21 perf rules don't allow the fixed keel model in the class with the swing keel boats. Apparently the fixed keels are actually abundant.

Re: San Juan 21 mk II

I was surprised to learn of a keeled version as well. I found another SJ21 MKII near my daughters place north of Seattle, for,a reasonable price. Will be in the area for thanksgiving, if the boats still their, I'll have a close look.

Have a large sj21 fleet here racing on wed nights are epic. BBQ and beverages at the yacht club, post race is lively.

Anybody grow up racing one of these?

Re: San Juan 21 mk II

I have a sj 7.7. Obviously bigger, but is fin keel. It holds its own racing most other boats in my area, especially in light wind.
Very easy to single hand, and we'll balanced.
Down side is the fin makes it difficult for launching and retrieving. I'm probably the deepest boat on the lake that doesn't use a crane. Only because I have a long extension and put my back tires of the truck completely underwater;-)
So check your ramps before you buy it. If it will work, you will have fun

Yes there were fixed keel 21's. I had and raced a MKII...swing keel.... my first sailboat. Good little boat, lightweight but sails pretty well. Shame to have a fixed keel on a trailerable boat though.
I was aboard my SJ21 in the San Juan islands the morning Mt St Helens blew up.
