Seidelmann 299

I am going to look at a refurbed Seidelmann 299. I want to sail it on Lake Erie with a family of 4. any thoughts? Boat with trailer at a very good price, but how is the resale? Better to spend more for a Catalina 30?
Thanks

These boat are VERY, VERY, tender. It is NOT a boat I would take the family cruising on, or as a beginner boat! I sailed on one for One and only One summer, and also knew Bob Seidlemann. Told him what I thought and never went back on the boat. It will round up very easily in any type of medium air and will spend most of it's time on its ear. I urge to sail it before your purchase it.....

Bob was a great guy. Best sailmaker I ever knew. My Dad owned hull #1 of, I think, the 40.

Bob made sailboats for only a very short time. The advice above, is good - and is similar to experience 2 of the folks I know who had Seildlemans - not including my father.

It is my opinion that you will be happier with a Catalina 30 - and whatever you save buying, you'll make up for in resale and in a very strong Catalina owner's group.
