Self Leveling Radar Mount

Any thoughts on using one of these ?
It's a device that should keep your radar always at level
with the horizon.
As you know when sailing as the boat heels or rolls the ( fixed ) radar
will do the same.

There are different mounting possibilities : Backstay, Mast or Pole.

Manufactures : Scanstrut, Waltz, Questus Marine, etc..

Greetz,

Koen

I think you need to consider the strain on the cable from flexing. The scans shown are BS. Not that not all sectors are affected when the boat heels. Forward and aft have the least change in returns and the beam has the greatest. But for close in collision avoidance this hardly matters.

If you like the idea of the radar being level. You can always mount it on it's own mast. Put the mast to use for all sorts of other jobs. Such as a crane for lifting the outboard from the dink. Other antenna placements, wind generator, and what ever your mind can come up with.....i2f

I have the Questus self leveling setup on our split backstay, and it works very good. No problems with in for two years so far.
