Silent Running Silent Running SR1000 Spray Kit

Greetings,

While my genset is out of the boat I would like to add some sound proofing and while i will use sound proof panels as much as possible there are place where it's just not feasible.
I came accross
Brand:
Silent RunningSilent Running SR1000 Spray Kit

on defender.
I am seeking anyone with experience with this. Did it work at reducing engine and generator noise? how difficult was it to use? Are there better alternatives? This is a kit with an spay attachment were you able to clean and reuse it. MOST OF ALL DOES IT REDUCE NOISE?

Thanks and fair winds,

Tom

Re: Silent Running Silent Running SR1000 Spray Kit

No experience with it.

I looked into the specs, tests, etc. It's a spray that deadens vibration, and the effect appears to be about what you would expect. But then, you're going to need at least two coats to get that effect, and that means that a $120 kit will cover ten square feet. Other rubbery sound deadening sprays are vastly cheaper, such as this one at $13 for twenty square feet.

What we don't have is a side-by-side comparison with other sprays. I can't tell you whether one is more effective than another, but I think I'd try the cheap approaches first.

Sound deadening is a tricky business. If you leave the sound source any direct path to a surface that can resonate, it will, and even small holes in your blanket can let a bunch of vibrations escape. It can be the hull itself that is vibrating, given no deadening was put on the bottom of the bilge. Do keep trying, and good luck with it.
