Spinnaker help

Hi,

I bought an alberg 30 last year and I am just now taking a look at what appears to be an asymmetrical spinnaker. It has a leech line and a foot line for adjustments so to me that would indicate asymmetrical.

It has a brass hank lashed on to the tack as well as a fairly long piece of line that is attached with whipping. This setup confuses me.

I've attached photos. Please have a look. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Spinnaker help

It is possible the previous owner was using the bronze hank to secure the tack to the bow fitting, and using the long line (tack line) as the retrieval if required. Not the normal way of running the tack setup but it would work. The main problem is that you would be unable to adjust the length of the luff (by extending the tack line in or out depending on the breeze strength/direction). The only reason you would normally retrieve the sail using the tack line is if the sheet attachments become unattached (occasionally happens). Doesn't look like the best setup but it would work.
