Stepping Masts

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for getting two masts stepped on a ketch located in the Boston area? I have been getting the run-around from some boatyards that don't seem to want to do the job and are asking silly money.

Thanks

Re: Stepping Masts

They all charge by the foot with upcharges for any attachments (Radar, windex, wind speed, etc.) and roller furling units. Size of your boat and masts would be helpful.

Re: Stepping Masts

Also to add to the above. Are the masts built? meaning, are the add ons already attached? (lights, radar, etc...) are the shrouds in place, spreader on? Do you need simply a price for crane time, or are you looking for a yard to sort out a pile of wire and hardware to put the masts on?

Re: Stepping Masts

Yes, I should have mentioned that.

The vessel in question is an Ackerman Newporter 40, with length of Main at 31', and Mizzen 16'6".

I am only looking for a rough price estimate.

According to sailboatdata the hoist of the mainsail alone is 37 feet. If that is accurate your mast length figures are way off. If your main mast is keel stepped your main mast is about 50 feet. Mizzenmast is anyone’s guess.
Last fall I paid a grand for my 46 foot mast to be pulled, stored for the winter, and restepped this spring. For the same service in the Boston area I’ll take a wild guess (since you can’t provide mast lengths) of two grand for both your masts.

Re: Stepping Masts

I assume the boatyards are giving you the worst case scenario?
I remember assisting in putting up a mast and the owner never bothered to check the rigging screws. The crane ended up staying for an extra hour at least while all the rigging screws were freed up.
Cheers

My yard in the Boston area charges about $950 to do the same for my mast every winter on my 40 footer. They charge me a line item rate for "30' and up" on the mast length. So doubling that for the OP, as you indicated, sounds like a good guess.
