Swanson 38

Hi all

Long time lurker first time poster. I have learned a great deal searching through these threads.

I am seriously looking at making an offer on a Swanson 38 which so far appears in pretty good nick. I have a heap of question I am putting together a heap of questions for the owner before putting an offer together pending survey and sail etc.

Does anyone have any experience with these yachts? Anything to look out for? I really fell in love with this one.

I will be looking to do a trip around northern Australia followed by the pacific. Apart from the draft it feels like the perfect boat!

Re: Swanson 38

Hi, no personal experience of the 38, have sailed on a Swanson 36 and a 32, have owned a 31 Carmen. All his designs are good sea boats but from my recall all were available as hull and deck options as well as finished boats and therefore the quality of build could vary.

Thanks guys. I got all the answers from the owner. Not that good anymore. Seems everything is still original on it so the rigging is over 20 yrs old and the original motor and sails are 15 yrs old so I can imagine it would be a big job to get it all upgraded. They are asking 72k. Having said that I looked at an awesome s&s 34 that has been constantly upgraded and is kitted for offshore cruising and the asking price is realistic for our market. They are just so tight below.
