Swanson Carmen 31

My boat is set up with the wheel and traveler located in the cockpit.

I would like to get more space and remove wheel with a tiller. Any thoughts about where the boom travel can be located? Unsure if the cabin top is strong enough to house it. Was considering doing away with traveler altogether and anchor to rear of the hull.
Appreciate any comments. Mathilda

Great boat the Carmen. Mine was a tiller steer and loved it. If you are cruising them you really do not need a traveller. Mine had one but cannot remember where it was but I do know that I never, ever, moved it.

Coops.

I have a swanson 28, similar to the carmen. Also was fitted with a wheel. I removed the wheel and went back to the tiller for the same reasons, space and my preference for the tiller. Great improvement; traveller is on the coschhouse roof which I find quite convienient as it helps to keep the cockpit relatively clear.
