Sweden Yachts 38

I have seen to occasional Sweden 38 like this on Bach Yachting - Sweden 38 Sold on brokers web sites and I find that they look interesting.

From what I gather they are well built of high quality and a 20-25 year old Sweden 38 is priced very similar to a 10 year old Jeanneau or Beneteau of the same size, which is what I have been interested in.

I am wondering if anyone here familiar with the Sweden 38 and how they would compare with the more modern boats. I would sort of expect that either aged boat would either be due for rigging replacements or may have already had the refit and the same would apply to the electronics, sails etc, so the older boat may not necessarily require more to be spent on it that the "younger" boat. They could both be just as expensive.

Am I on the right track not "fearing" the older boat?

We just bought a 26 years old yacht after having owned a new J-109.

The new production boats are not comparable with what was built in the 80's

We also owned a Furia 44' which we consider as good as a Sweden or Swan but much better priced; there is one in Spain for sale going around 100k in superb condition

Look at the hull/keel join very carefully. I've known of three Sweden Yachts that have had serious problems in this area.
