Tally Ho

Here we can see a "Real" cutter under full sail, and get a peek at what a real capstan is like for a 48' boat.
I've watched all the videos of Keith Rucker, who rebuilt that capstan, (with many others involved,) you need a chain hoist to lift it.

Re: Tally Ho

That's an elegant boat to be sure. What will they use it for? Personal cruising? Charters? Cargo?
I wonder how important sail balance will be with a tiller on a boat that heavy. My small cutter gets real heavy to steer when I have too much main with too little headsail--she really wants balance.

Re: Tally Ho

Leo has spent a few years rebuilding her from the ballast up.
She won the 1927 Fasnet race on corrected time in heavy weather where only her and an Alden schooner finished.
I too wonder about a tiller, but it seems to be an easily balanced boat.

Re: Tally Ho

Leo designed the rudder with a trim tab. I'm guessing it is both for the autopilot and for balancing the helm.
