Tartan 37 vs CT 38 Fast Cruiser... or?

I used to liveaboard on a 30ft sloop, and also a 42ft trawler, but have been off the water for more than a decade.

I am now in the market for a versatile Pacific Northwest family cruising sailboat.

I want to sleep 5 comfortably, and 6 if needed.

Going offshore intrigues us (eventually) but 90% of our time on the water will be coastal cruising with a preference for decent speed and light wind performance over pure offshore comfort.
(Probably makes sense to choose and outfit a different boat entirely if/when we want to go offshore.)

I am looking in the 37-42 ft range, and $50k to $75k budget range, give or take.

No offense, but am not very interested in dime a dozen Catalinas, Hunters, etc...

There are two boats on the market that seem to fit the bill... a Tartan 37 and a CT 38 Fast Cruiser.

I am curious about any comparisons re sailing performance. Specs:

1980 Tartan 37:
Skeg-hung rudder, cutaway forefoot and long fin keel.
Beam = 11 ft 9in beam.
Displacement = 15500 lbs.
Engine = 42 hp Westerbeke 3,700 hours.
Prop = Three blade feathering Max Prop
Older sails and no idea if/when standing rigging has been updated.

1986 CT 38 Fast Cruiser (Warwick design)
Fin keel with rudder on skeg
Beam = 11ft 6in
Displacement = 16,775 lbs
Engine = Yanmar 30hp 2600 hrs
Prop = 3 blade
The CT 38 is covered in original teak decks... epoxied down, not screw fastened.

Thoughts on the overall performance of these two boats? Other similar boats I should consider?

There is also a 1981 C&C 40 MK2 in this price range...

Any input appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Tartan 37 vs CT 38 Fast Cruiser... or?

C&C also made the Landfall series, basically performance cruisers in several sizes, they were comfortable enough and were based on their racer/cruiser hulls with modifications. Basically early performance cruisers.
The 42 is a racer cruiser, but in typical C&C fashion was more comfortable than the average racer cruiser of it's day, and a seaworthy boat with good light air performance. I haven't sailed one but have sailed a 37+ and a 41, they both sailed really well and were comfortable at sea.
The 38 I owned for years had good light air performance and when reefed for the conditions was fine in rough weather, it also had a removable inner forestay added to run a storm jib, which I only used twice in 14 years, but really appreciated it when I needed it. The 38 Landfall (cruising series) was based off that hull.
I believe the Landfall series went from 37 to 48 feet in length.
