Tayana 37

So I've come across a lovely Tayana 37 cutter that seems quite suitable for our upcoming cruising adventure, but there don't seem to be many threads here about that model. Does anybody have any experience with this boat, pointers or stories to tell, pros, cons and things to watch out for? How does she perform, and how comfortable is the ride? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide!

Nice cruising boat. Not a speed demon and she doesn't like light air but the advantage those characteristics provide is to allow the skipper sufficient time to maintain all that bright work

Re: Tayana 37

It’ll move in air as low as 7 knts but will outpace ‘speed deamons’ When it starts blowing and everyone else is hiding and really shines in anything above 20knts. There is a ton of info on them and almost 600 produced. Check out the Tayana owners group for any info. You’ll also find lots of other info on line. Depending on the trim it may or may not have tons of bright work, and the layout may be pretty wild as it was an option to completely customize the interior but the standard 3 layouts work very well. Avoid teak decks if possible, and take a good look at the chainplates, rigging and fuel tank. Outside that the ‘Jeep of the sea’ will take you anywhere you want to go very comfortably and safely. The only real annoying issue you’ll have is the hours you’ll spend talking to people when they come over and want to talk about your beautiful boat.

Re: Tayana 37

Make sure to have a very good survey. I delivered one up the California coast about 20 years ago and it was a worn out boat at that time. Most are old enough that care rather than age makes the difference. I was unimpressed with its sailing performance, but as I said , it was a tired boat. If it is in good shape it will be like any other cruising boat, it will depend on the sailor not the boat. ____Grant.
