"remove a large rag "
This is why pilots, or their ground crews, have those big red streamers that say REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT clipped all over, instead of just jamming in rags. And they're actually in any aviation catalog, boaters can buy them too.
My parole officer says that Brookie showed remarkable restraint and that more of us should try to learn from that.

Re: That didn't go as planned

Wait I'm confused...is your boat a Passport 40 or a Cherubini 48 (I think that is what it is)? EDIT: Ah, the Passport...

I personally would not pay ANY of the bent shaft repair costs. A half-way skilled lift operator can figure out where to put the aft sling in about 20 seconds. Drop it down, slide it forward, find the aft end of the keel, ease it back a foot, and lift.

If you have a standard stuffing box I'm guessing it had been adjusted at some point and not locked. If you put her in reverse the locking nut would just spin right off and you'd have water pouring in the boat. Ask me how I know.

I’m surprised that didn’t rip the strut loose. Check it and the hull around it thoroughly for cracks.

Re: That didn't go as planned

Carl,
I most certainly did. I have spent the last three days on the boat making sure it is all good. The shaft is going in tomorrow

Re: That didn't go as planned

This past weekend consisted of getting completely ready and then...the starter...had water dripping out of it. Mind you it had worked the day before... has to be ordered today.... I am not upset, truly I am not. I am getting to know the systems real well, changed the transmission fluid, was able to get some new line stoppers installed in the mean time.

Spending two days on board this week scrubbing the decks and the head. The head is nasty.

Did you find where the water came from? Will you get the old starter rebuilt as a spare?

Re: That didn't go as planned

The water was coming int through the stuffing box, when they replaced that we have had no further leaks. I have asked for them to leave me the old starter and I will have it rebuilt

Also I had three people look to see if the mast was leaning including the rigger who is installing the cleats, It was just the angle of the photo...

Labels that could duplicate as the boat name.
