Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat

Those William Garden Taiwanese Ketches really were dream boats. There was a CT 41 in Redondo Beach that used to admire named Aphrodite. They were rumored to have problems with the stainless and maybe other issues. But they were gorgeous to look at and going down below would transport one to another time and place. Who wouldn’t be tempted and wonder what might have been.

The only thing I have to work on is the "Teak".

Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat

gorgeous boat!!! William Gardner boats are such gorgeous creatures!

and yes, teak work is work, but when the boat starts to come to life, i feel equally full of life!

just a couple of weeks ago, i prepped and varnished that huge wooden spar just aft of the bowsprit on a William Garden Vagabond 47 (i volunteer, mostly, while i get better at it).

it was a tad cold (not good for varnish) and the wind was up, but, otherwise it was a joy to sand and varnish (just wish the filler colour that had been applied to a few cracks was closer in colour).

When a pretty boat boat shines her pride, it is AMAZING!

I understand! My "Pride and Joy" has always been
the Cheoy Lee Clipper 42, with lots of teak.

I went through that phase early in my sailing days. Eventually I went with as little wood as I could find because it's more fun using the boat than the boat using you.

Personally I would remove the varnish and fine sand the teak to as uniform a shade as possible then teak oil it..
After that it's a wipe down with teak cleaner twice a year and re oil..
The trouble with varniishing teak is the oils start lifting the varnish whereas oil keeps the teak fed and waterproof..
Good looks with functionality..
Varnish is for posers not sailors..

Never seen a CT-41 as a CC in person, since they are fairly rare. Here is an ad for one and the ports a different than the OP's pics.

Sometimes they get it wrong and list it as a CT-41 CC. Saw this ad, but if you scroll through the slides you will see it is in fact a Trans World when you read the top of the main electrical panel near the companionway.

As long as it belongs to the next slip over and I don't have to mess with it. I think they're just great and everybody (besides me) should have one

Would $195 be a good price for a nearly new 41ft Ketch like that? I did a search and was having trouble finding a similar boat that wasn't 40-50 years old.
